These hashioki (chopstick rests) are about 2.5" long x .75" wide by .75" high. They are not signed but came in a box signed by the artist, Yoshiki Ueno, and included a biography sheet. New condition, apparently never used. Ueno is/was a fairly well known Japanese glass artist. Circa late 1970s or early 1980s.

I am in a money saving mode, but this is something special and I was able to get a good deal off of the asking price, so went for it. The seller either did not know, or chose not to identify the artist. Thank you Google Translate!

    Biography:
    "Yoshiki Ueno
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1933. He has been involved in craft glass creation since he was young and has been working with glass for 30 years. During that time, he worked tirelessly to improve his skills and his work received numerous honors. In the craft glass world, his rich sensitivity and unique style based on his excellent modeling techniques are highly praised, and his gold kiln glass, created using his unique technique, is especially famous. He is currently holding solo exhibitions all over the country, receiving rave reviews.

    Awards:
Small and Medium Enterprise Secretary Award
Selected for Nitten Exhibition 4 times
Selected for prefectural exhibitions 3 times
    Address: 19-3 Kamiwajiro, Higashi-ku, Fukuoka
Affiliation: Fukuoka Special Glass Co., Ltd."

    Box label:
    "modern kappo
    Japanese utensils"

I found a seller in Japan who recently discovered a cache of new old stock hashioki dating to the 1970s or 1980s, which are very high quality. I bought most of them, since the seller was very flexible on the price. I am going to suspend collecting for several months to conserve funds, and this was a last fling. Some of the sets name the artist/designer, like this one, and some are a mystery. This Yoshiki Ueno set is from this cache. I have a few more to post. They are some of the best glass hashioki that I have seen. Maybe from.the collection of a Japanese collector?

Thanks for your comments, Jenni! I suspect that you are right about their bird theme, and that might be on the title on the box, but that is hand written and I am not able to translate it.
