This is about the history of this The parents of my mother were Polish….they came to Argentina before the second WWW during the great depression. After some time they tried to aid some members of their families to reach them, my great grandfather aid his brother and my grandmother her sister; whose name was Felicia Zalcman around 1937 just a few months before German invasion. This child Japanese set was a present that Felicia gave to my mother´s oldest sister when she arrived. Then my mother sister emigrate to Israel and when she died a year and a half ago the daughter of Felicia send this beauty to me….. so how many miles this china set has on it…..
You know porcelain from Japan is very difficult to identify. In a site of reference about this subject it is stated that (https://gotheborg.com/marks/20thcenturyjapan.shtml) “The marks are more commercially oriented, more numerous and can vary even within a set of pieces. They can indicate the name of the factory, the potter, the decorator, the pattern, the customer, the exporter, the importer or both or a part of them or maybe just say "Made in Japan", "Japan", "Nippon", "Happiness" or "Good luck" in any number of ways. Increasing the confusion are the hundreds of porcelain decorating firms active in the early to mid 20th century simultaneously putting many different marks on the same wares seemingly at random but probably for some reason.” So after searching for a while I decided that it was not a good investment of time because I could not find anything similar. This set was most probably produced around 1935.
What remains after 85 years are four cups and five saucers….They have the size perfec to to have an espresso. The porcelain is thin and translucent so you can see the transfers from the back, look at the second picture…The pattern is very feminine, it is composed of a gilt guard over pink and medallions (two in each cup and saucer) all identical, depict the same “gallant scene”, one boy addressing to a girl sitted under a tree. She looks very comfortable with a right leg crossed over the left and the left hand used as a cushion under her head….. she is dressed in a less formal way than the boy…
I always feel commoved when thinking that so many families like mine moved around the world looking for a peaceful place to live.
