Hello everyone!!
A nice pair of bronze lions sitting atop spheres that I recently acquired. The lions are very detailed and look quite majestic sitting atop those spheres. The originals were sculpted in the 19th century by Antoine-Louis Barye in Paris, France. They are both signed on the bases. I've seen many of these lions that are similar, but not quite like these two. For instance, these two are sitting atop world globes with a brick base. The others I've seen have a smooth base and smooth sphere. Some of the spheres I've seen depict tassels.
I'm not sure exactly how old this pair of lions are, but I'm told they're mid-1900's or earlier. Either way, they were in poor condition when I received them. I carefully cleaned them and gave each a coat of transparent wax to protect the finish. These fellows each stand 25 1/2" tall and the bases are 7" x 7". These lions each weigh 28lbs each.
Thanks very for stopping in for a look at my bronze lions!!

Jenni,
Thanks very much!! I worked off and on for a couple of days to get these lions cleaned. But, fortunately they cleaned up well.
