Hello, everyone!!
Here's an extremely rare doorstop that you won't find many of in the world today. This was made by the Judd Company sometime around the turn of the 20th century, possibly earlier, and was cataloged as "Man On Cotton Bale" #1248 (stamped into the cast iron right behind the gentleman). This one is the most valuable doorstop in my collection. The gentleman is spelter and the cotton bale is heavy cast iron. Though the gentleman has lost a large amount of his original paint, he's still pretty spectacular. This particular doorstop carries a very high value today. This particular gentleman is not unique to this doorstop and was also used on La Rosa Colorado Cigar Company boxes (I happen to have a reproduction of that particular box). In fact, you'll notice that he has a box of matches in his hands and is getting ready to light his cigar. I'd wanted one of these for my collection for many years now and was finally able to get this one in an online auction for less than $300. He measures 9 1/8" tall, 7" wide and weighs 8.80lbs!
Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!!

Vynil,
Thanks very much friend!!
ho2cultcha,
Thanks!!!! I only wish the gentleman was in as good of condition as the cotton bale.
Dave,
Thanks!! Yes, that is the La Rosa Colorado Cigar Co. box that the gentleman also appeared on, in a smaller version though. I have a couple of reproductions of that box.
Jenni,
Thank you so very much!! Believe it, or not, I've seen this particular doorstop valued at $5000 and up!!!

Congratulations Scott!
It’s always great to get a desired rarity and even better at a price that’s reasonable.
It is magnificent. The modelling of the gentleman is extraordinary, so much detail and character. The bale itself is wonderful and it anchors the whole piece so well.
Happy for you
Karen,
Thank you so very much!! I've wanted one of these for many many years and was so happy to add this gentleman to my collection! I guess one day will come when I actually part with all my doorstops and collectibles and let someone else enjoy them.
