These five hashioki are about 2.75" long x 1.5" wide x 1" high. The bottoms are ground flat and matte polished. They came in a fancy, silk lined hinged box, made of rich, textured paper with a thin cardboard sleeve that slides over the box. This set is several decades old but in new condition.
The hashioki are not signed but came with a copious amount of documentation; two loose papers and two box labels. One paper appears to refer to the designer and the other to the glass artist? I could find nothing for either name. Perhaps they will be familiar to Karen (I hope). At any rate, I think that this is a significant documented set.
The loose papers say:
"Takumi
Glass Product
A soothing Japanese atmosphere of the four seasons.
Takumi, the glass craftsman, put them into a container.
This is a masterpiece made of fragrant glass.
Utensils created by long tradition and reliable technology.
A sophisticated vessel worthy of being called a craftsman.
Please enjoy the chic and stylish atmosphere.
Hiroshi Takada
He has a reputation for the richness of his modeling ability, and he particularly demonstrates this ability to the fullest in his ornamental creations. He has made remarkable progress in recent years, and is a young artist with a promising future.
Born June 10, 1945 in Kumamoto Prefecture
28 years of glass craft experience
Multiglass Co., Ltd.
1-21-1 Washirooka, Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City"
The label on the box lid says:
"Takumi
The curve of glass"
So, I think Takumi made these and they were designed by Hiroshi Takada? Just my take on the labels. The other label, which is on one end of the box, is probably a stocking label.
I think you may be right Kevin
Takada was the primary artist at Multi for their animals and he passed on his style and skills.
The address is the reformed Multi Glass from around 200 and Takada was one of the original glass blowers to take on the company name and restart the company.
I think he is now retired.
This set is too fabulous!
