    Hello everyone!!
An unusual doorstop I own is this Warwick Bear and Ragged Staff. It's copper plated cast iron and well detailed. This one comes from England where doorstops are mostly referred to as door porters. I do not know who the foundry was that cast this, but they did a wonderful job with the detailing. I'm told that this one dates back to around 1900 or earlier. The person I purchased this from said that their parents purchased this at an antiques store in England in the mid-1950's. This one measures 10 3/4" tall, 7 3/4" wide and weighs in right at 7lbs.

The Bear and Ragged Staff is a heraldic emblem or badge associated with the Earldom of Warwick. The Ragged Staff is believed to refer to Morvidus, an early legendary Earl of Warwick who is said to have slain a giant "with a young ash tree torn up by the roots. The design features the traditional bear and ragged staff used in the county since the Middle Ages as a symbol of the Earls of Warwick. The first recorded use of the two symbols was by the Beauchamp family, who became the Earls of Warwick in 1268, as a seal.

Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!
