Hello everyone!!
Here's a treasure I found a while back. It's a pair of cold painted sculptures of a peasant boy and girl. I love these two. The painting and details are impeccable. No details whatsoever were omitted. I believe the sculptures themselves are made of spelter. However, strangely enough, the bases are cold painted bronze. So, the sculptures could possibly be bronze as well. These are from the mid to late 1800's and still in wonderful condition for their age. Since spelter wasn't used to cast sculptures until around 1860, they'd be no older than that. There is a signature, possibly a number, at the foot of each on top of the bases. However, I'm unable to make it out. Perhaps someone here on CW can help with that. The girl stands 13 3/4" tall and the boy stands 13 1/2" tall. The bases are 4 1/2" diameter and they each weigh nearly 4lbs.
Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!
