Hello everyone!!
Here's another of my highly prized cast iron doorstops. This one was made by Hubley and was listed in their catalog as "Messenger" #249. It was designed by Anne Harriet Fish, a cartoonist from the early 1900's and is marked ©FISH, as you can see on the front of the base. It is marked 249 on the backside, as you'll see in pic #3.
Though this one really doesn't look like an outstanding doorstop, it is highly sought after in the world of doorstop collectors. All of the FISH designed doorstops tend to fetch a high price. There are a lot of fakes and copies of the FISH doorstops, but this one is the real deal and I feel fortunate to have this one in my collection. It's in really nice condition and measures 10" tall and 5 3/8" wide.
Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!

It does remind me of old cartoons. Wow, I looked up prices..they are spendy! Nice piece..
Dave,
Thanks!! Yes, it does have a cartoon appearance, as did all of Anne Fish's doorstop designs. So, you saw what I was referring to when I stated that they are pricey. I got lucky and landed this one for an incredibly low price.
Terrific messenger doorstop, reminds me of those vintage "call for Philip Morris" commercials :)
Jenni,
Thanks!! Yes, I'd never thought about that, but you're right.
