Hello everyone!!
I found this bronze sculpture a few months ago and just couldn't pass it by. It's an English Bulldog wearing a bowler hat and smoking a cigar. I've seen many of these, but none have been as nicely cast and so well detailed as this one. Most I've seen were poorly cast and the little details, such as the eyes and cigar were not detailed at all.
Some say that he was modeled after the famous painting of "Dogs Playing Poker". However, I've always thought it was modeled after Sir Winston Churchill, but I'll let you be the judge of that. I believe this was made sometime between the 1940's and early 1950's. He measures 6 3/4" tall, 6 1/2 front to back and 4" wide. He weighs 4lbs 8oz.
Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!
