This ring was given to me when I was a child. I have had it for 30 yrs now. The only thing I know about it is that it is 14 k white and yellow gold and that it is near a hundred years old or more. I would love to know if the ruby is real? I know its not likely but it would be great if it were! If anyone has any info on this ring, it would be so appreciated.
Kystarlette1, the best you can do is take it to a jeweler. They will tell you if it is real or not.
It is very difficult to say from a couple of pictures.
Nice ring, though! Great gift for a child! Glad you held onto it!
Either, I have taken it to multiple ones over the years, and most say they believe it to be real but wanted to send it off, of which I was afraid to entrust them to do so. Thank you for your comments. I need to find someone that can test it with in the small area I live in. The search continues..
ESTHER *....not either lol. Sorry, I hate auto correct on this phone!
lol...my phone does the same thing...seems they have a mind of their own and say what they want! :D
My guess on the age is 1850s-1870s or so, popular period for the bow motifs, and the filagree detail too. Gorgeous ring, if that ruby is real, it is worth a lotta money!! Quite good clarity for a ruby of that size. If you hadn't said your jewelers think its a ruby, I'd have guessed a spinel or even a pink garnet. Usually big name jewellery stores have a gemmologist on site who can test this; I know some Birks stores do. You may pay a little more for the appraisal, depends how much it is worth to you to find out for sure!
