    i found this unusual trivet in a box i got at an auction. best i can tell its aluminum the "petals" are hinged and fold in. its really cool but i cant find any info on it. i cant find anything even similar to it. it appears to be old. i would love any info anyone could give me. about how old is it, whats the value, what is it called..... any info at all would be awesome. thanks

      It's for boiling different foods together without them getting mixed up. For example, if you are making vegetable soup, and you want to make sure a certain veggie stays whole, you place it in this boiler and put it in the pot. Once it's cooked, you can just pull it out and serve it separately. Many homes have them here in Spain, for cooking certain legumes and serving them on the side.
      It's collapsible so it will fit most pots.

      Also used for steaming shellfish.
      It's missing the holder, that would have been in the center.

      there is no spot for a handle in the middle i saw a collapsible steamer in my search and it had a hole in the center where the handle attached. there is no hole in the center of mine or evidence that there is a missing piece
