Here is a 4"W green glass sea turtle with a mirrored dichroic glass base, enabling it to shift to a lavender color depending on light and angle....I tried to show this in photos #3 (waves, lower rt side) and #4 but the mirroring makes it hard to photograph. It doesn't change color under UV or black light. Etch signed L16 by glassmaker Mr Lehman on base

Massive thanks to you for this post. As soon as I saw a photo, one of my mysteries was solved. I will be posting a similar soon. Thanks for the I.D.

Sounds almost as if it was made of Alexandrite which does a good job changing colour under certain light, love it !~

Cute little sea turtle Jenni! Though I must admit it took me a minute to make him out! Reminds me of those Asian carvings made of jade showing turtles, but this little one is a slightly more realistic version? The colour is gorgeous too, really reminiscent of a swimming pool in summer- funny that too because I've seen loads of swimming pools with turtles designs all over them so I guess they're a spot on motif for pools?
Anyway, you're turtle is so pretty! Colour is probabaly my favourite! :)

Fantastic comments & praise, thank you so much

Dean I'm really delighted that I could help you i.d. your beautiful Lehman squid, he's such a talented glass artist isn't he...I have one other of his ocean paperweights, a starfish, but without the dichroic panel. This site is great because we are always learning from each other, it's helped me with i.d.'s too :)

Phil yes it is so much like alexandrite or neodymium glass, just too bad I couldn't show the intense purple base, think maybe I should have just shone a flashlight through it cause it really doesn't change unless you hold it up to a light source

Bernard I totally agree it's an awesome sea green color, more luminescent than iridescent as the top glass hasn't been treated (I think the mirrored base panel gives it an extra glow). It sorta has a uranium type of look to it though it's not

Scott I'm thrilled that you love sea turtles, they are so prevalent in Hawaii we even brought back a painting of one! They seemed to glide under the glassy Hawaiian waters in those big aquariums (no, we don't snorkel, you can really get close to them then)

Lauren it's very true that this turtle has an Asian flavor esp the head, it's a cool piece, and your comparison to turtles in swimming pools is spot on...once again a Hawaiian story (we just loved it there, visited three islands four times), one hotel we stayed at there had total sea turtle decor, all over the lobby, sculptures & even the wallpaper!
