I love the idea of flower designs and it seems the flower designs or in particular a Sherman design with the leaves in it are really in a league of their own. In this one the lone green leaf changes colour to shades of purple at something as simple as a turn in almost any light which amplifies the use of purple and AB stones. The use of a 4 leaf clover by Van Cleef and Arpels an early as 1955 apparently was "first" but other manufacturers may have used theirs around then. This particular leaf was specially designed by Sherman and quite different than other makers !~ This like a majority of medium size brooches use tendrils where Sherman usually put smaller stones on these tendrils. I do have one which I would categorize was particularly it would seem designed for the set with a necklace. In that one is a use of longer very thin wires where some almost miniature stones in different shapes jiggle and are moving when the wearer moves because of the use of very thin wire.. Those are very rare and sometimes have various shapes of miniature stones, so major differences from other Jewelry manufacturers. A lot of these medium or smaller brooches are not made for a set with the necklace. The tendrils are used more in Sherman pieces than other manufacturers. A lot of other manufactures did not use the leaves in changing colours. The wider navettes in AB can seem to almost change colour to a lavender/blue hue of Alexandrite in some lights and turns which is stunning. That seems to make AB a better choice here than Alexandrite !~
This particular piece is in a league of its own with the purple and AB which is also a cleverly used Sherman trait. There is so much other info to take in account in this design which becomes a futuristic piece of Sherman magic !~
