I believe this vintage Kachina is Hopi-based, only because of the research I've done so far over the years. However, I'm open to other knowledge. I don't know which animal is it supposed to represent, though. The figure is hand-painted. The overall height, including the Cottonwood branch it's standing on, is prox 7 3/4 to 8" tall. Its eyes are made of coral; clothing is handstitched, rattlers are made with silver and turquoise details. The feet have been broken and glued back together, at least once before I obtained it and once by me. The privacy flap (I know there's a proper name for it but not sure what it is) appears to have the letters "E" and "I" stitched into it, the "E" above the "I". The privacy flap is starting to unravel at the bottom so there may have been another letter after that but I don't think there was enough room. I don't think it has unraveled very far. Its fur and feathers have definitely seen better days. Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking!!
ps...I just noticed the pics are rotated and I don't know how to fix this. I searched for it but apparently it has to do with taking the pics with my cellphone and there's something I don't know how to do to correct it before uploading. They uploaded to my computer just fine, though. Sorry.
Beautiful Kachina figure!
For the pix, you could try turning the phone sideways then press camera, sometimes the image comes out straight up. It's the simplest way I know to post pix from a phone (I have an android phone :) Good luck
