Carved Hawk From Horn
Approximately 4" tall
This is a bird figure..looks like a hawk? It is carved from water buffalo horn. I believe this example was made in the Philippines. The seller said their parents visited there often.
And NO..water buffalo are not killed for their horns.
WATER BUFFALO FACTS
They may be big, but are not slow! Water buffalo can reach speeds of 30 mph.
They are used in other countries similar to how we use cows. Compared to cow's milk, water buffalo milk contains higher levels of protein, calcium and iron, while sporting less cholesterol and lactose.
The buffalo milk is commonly used to make delicious, Italian-style mozzarella cheeses.
World's largest bovines. At their largest, bull water buffalo can weigh up to 2,650 lbs with a height of 6 ft (not including their horns). Water buffalo cows are more petite ranging from 1,500 lbs and up.
He's a beautiful carved hawk, great detail
Fabulous, majestic hawk! Super great find!
Beautiful hawk...love the detail on the feathers.
There is a water buffalo farm a few hours from my property where they make the most amazing buffalo mozzarella..absolutely delicious..
They are actually lovely animals...better behaved than some of my angus cattle...haha
Thank you Jenni, Deja & Leesa for the comments. I was working morning shifts for about 3 weeks and forgot to thank you guys. 4 am was way too early for me and the dogs. Back to 2nd shift this week and much happier.
