1960s Ironwood Carved Owl
Approximately 4 1/2" tall.
My sister picked up a large lot of owl figures made of wood and pottery at an estate sale for our etsy shop. The persons father had a huge collection of owl stuff all from the 1950s and 60s. She knows I have a few in my collection, so she saved this one for me.
This is a horned owl figure carved from ironwood. There is a SA carved in the bottom. Also appears to have a stamp mark on the bottom, but can't make it out.
WHAT A HOOT!
Not all owls hoot!
Owls can rotate their necks 270 degrees.
Owls often swallow their prey whole.
Horned owls can hear sounds ten miles away.
WHAT'S SO GREAT?
Named “the Great Horned Owl”, because of the two tufts on their head that look like horns.
Great Horned Owls are able to fly in near silence due to the shapes of their wings and soft feathers. This gives them the element of surprise when hunting.
Awesome carved horned owl and super history
This treen is quite special, congrats !~
Thank you Jenni & Phil for the wonderful comments. Somehow I've accumulated an owl collection amongst many other stuff.
