Australian Colonial Cedar Hall Table: A Cut Above the Average

This early 19th Century (circa 1820) Australian Colonial Cedar Single Drawer Hall Table would be pretty run of the mill if all you had to go by was it's basic description but this table has oh so much more going for it!
The first thing one notices is the longer than usual form, over 2m but otherwise a very simple & period typical piece. It's not until one takes notice of the incredibly beautifully figured, single piece Cedar top on this table. The depth, patterning, striations and colouring of this gargantuan slab of Australian Cedar is second to none in my experience. It is a rare occurrence one comes across Cedar with such figuring. This kind of beauty of grain is usually reserved for Rosewood/Mahogany or Hunguhali but here, we see figuring so beautiful it almost appears like a work of art in and of itself.
Although it does not hide any of its 200+ years of existence, it has a wonderful patina, is solid as the day it was made and has undergone no restoration whatsoever.
A wonderful example of early Australian Colonial Furniture, some might say at its best.
