Irene Rhode-Hamel (1902-1986) received her M.A. in Music from Mills College, and it was not until the late 1940's she became interested in ceramics. She was a student of Bernard Leach, Edward Cadogan and Antonio Prieto. Irene was spouse of Karl Rhode-Hamel. Collecting note: pots of this artist could be discovered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Irene had gallery representation. Irene Hamel exhibited in the 1950's at the Pacific Coast Exhibition and Sale, as well as at the Association of San Francisco Potters. Irene exhibited at the Syracuse Ceramic Nationals in 1949, 1951, 1952 and 1956.
