This Indonesian Tapestry I've owned for some time but know nothing about. It measures 35" wide x 32 1/2" tall. Does anyone out there have any insight as to my mystery? Christo

Tapestry is a form of textile art, traditionally woven by hand on a loom. I guess that this is a painting.

Than this what I could find:

These long painted cloths were hung around the sides of shrines, facing the interior, in Balinese Hindu temples on ceremonial occasions.

The traditional painting of Bali has many stylistic conventions. The depiction of figures is similar to that of shadow puppets. The figures are almost always shown in three-quarter profile and there is no indication of depth of field. As in shadow puppetry, the heroes are often shown on the left side and the antagonists on the right.

My knowledge of Balinese art is not good enough to judge whether this is an authentic painting or whether it was made for the tourist market.
