This Mashiko "plate" is 8" square x 1.25" high and weighs about 1 lb 13 ounces. It is not marked, kiln unknown. This "cherry blossom" design is typically identified as Mashiko. Similar shape and sized pieces are fairly common Mashiko ware and usually described as "plates". Not sure if they have a use aside from "decorative".

Plates like this typically come with a tomobako but if there was one with this plate it has been lost. The seller said it had a box with it and receipt dated 1976, but no further information as the seller stopped responding to my questions. I bought this as part of my bathroom Japanese pottery decoration but I did not expect this plate to be so large and heavy. Not sure that I can find a hanger that will hold it. It was super cheap ($5!) on E of the Bay, no dimensions or weight in the description, so I expected it would be small and thin, perhaps a sauce dipping bowl. So a really good deal but not sure what I will do with it now. I will probably still experiment with hanging it. A potential cat killer if it fell, so on the fence. Right now, I am using as part of a display of Japanese pottery.

You could use it as Amanda's new food bowl, full with tasty treats of course! :)

Or the frame for curing her pelt.... I could use a new pair of winter slippers. She has been very clingy and demanding lately. Multiple bouts of laser pointer chasing every day. She has a strong personality.
