This Kurata handkerchief vase is about 6.5" high x 5.5" in diameter and weighs 1 lb 13 ounces. It has a "Kurata Craft Glass" label in fair condition. The vase is in mint condition. The true colors are much deeper and richer than my images show. Artificial light.... I will try again when I have access to natural light.
This vase was pulled into shape not swung. It has the marks of the pliers on each of the three wings. This is the first example of a vase of this type by Kurata that I have seen. All of the other Japanese vases of this style that I have seen were swung, not pulled into shape.
This was also super inexpensive (just under $25 including shipping) while most Japanese art glass values are extremely inflated. Though asking prices are very high, checking completed auctions shows that nothing is selling at these inflated prices. Not sure why, then, asking prices are so inflated. I definitely do not see Japanese art glass, in general, as a good investment, especially not for factory art glass, like this. I just like the stuff!
Stunning, the color is awesome
Thanks for your comments, Jenni! I will try to get better images, soon. Been staying up very late, getting up very late and by the time I churn through my daily routine it is already dark outside...
Thanks for checking out my Kurata version of a handkerchief vase, Kevin, dav2no1, mikelv85, fortapache, Vynil33rpm, Drake47 and Jenni!
Thanks, vcal, PhilDMorris and BHIFOS!
Kevin I know how you feel, I'm a 'night owl' myself, I worked a night shift job for many years so even tho that's ended, I'm most comfortable in the wee small hours. Which works out good with husband as he's on normal time so we have alot of time to ourselves lol :)
Luv being up into the early morning hours. I have been having breakfast around 6-7 pm, dinner around 11 pm to midnight. When I drive between my two houses, I usually do it between midnight and 2 am. I am retired so just drifted into these hours. It seems to Freak. People. Out. but I love it. Have to be careful driving country roads in the early morning as there are lots of deer crossing the roads but there is almost zero traffic. I only have to keep some sort of appointment during daylight hours maybe three or four times a year.. works for me!
Thanks, Bronmar and wolcott1!
Me too Kevin! Great that there are so few cars on the road but put your brights on for the deer :))
I do that!
Thank you, Merrill33 and Reise!
