Created June 1, 1960 by presidential Executive Order 10879 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the White House Service Badge recognized military personnel stationed at official presidential facilities to include the White House, The Old Executive Office Building (now the Eisenhower Executive Office Building), Camp David and other official offices.

The badge features a silver tone presidential eagle in high relief (base metal, not sterling silver or silver plate) measuring 2 1/4" in diameter on a white ceramic background surmounted on a gold colored disc (brass, not solid gold, gold plated or gold filled) with rays emanating around the base measuring .164" thick.

The first 500 issued featured a maker's mark of a rhombus with the initials of Williams & Anderson Co. while the next 2000 were without the rhombus for a total of 2,500 issued in all. They were not numbered and not issued to an individual.

The military badge was not a permanent issue and had to be returned at the end of the White House tour of duty, although it would become part of the official record of the holder.

The White House Service Badge would be retired by President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 1, 1964 and replaced by the Presidential Service Badge.
