As seen during the Circus's Blue Unit Autumn visit to Wilkes-Barré, PA in 2010. A few short years later, the circus by train expedition would be a thing of. the past.
These cars were part of the trains animal transport section.
Fabulous post Ted, it makes me so nostalgic to see this circus train, they used to park them in an area near the old Mitchel Field air base (now Nassau Community College). I really do miss the circus but it wouldn't be the same w/o the animals
Thank you, Jenni ! I, too, always looked forward to their arrival. The animal cars were parked on a siding near the Mohegan Sun Arena there the circus was performed. And the elephants would be walked up the hill from the rail yard to the Arena.
And the human casts cars' were stationed a few miles away on another siding. They were then bussed to and from shows.
The "new" is mainly acrobats, clowns, high wire acts etc...but pales in comparison to when the animal acts were included. Something was lost when management caved in to the vocal minority.
I can disclose to you some of the inside stories of the circus, but not on a public site. I also have more photos of the circus trains, which I hope to post sometime soon.
Lol Ted I've heard some circus stories myself, perhaps it was that nomadic lifestyle. Forgot to say when our trains parked near Mitchel Field it was because the circus was appearing at the Nassau Coliseum. Yes, the animal acts truly 'made' the circus, loved the lion tamer, prancing horses etc. Hope to see more of your circus train pix
