Hello everyone!!
Here's another lucky find for me recently. It's a bronze thoroughbred horse and jockey sculpture. It was severely tarnished when I found it and was nearly 100% covered with green verdigris. I couldn't tell much about it when I bought it, in regard to the size and details, but the seller offered it to me for $25 and I couldn't pass it up. It came from an estate in Lexington, KY. There's no signature, but I've searched and searched and cannot find another like this. Similar, but not identical. Most I see have marble or wood bases. This has a heavy bronze base which is a rarity.
I worked for hours carefully cleaning and polishing this piece and I'm amazed at the fine details of this sculpture. From the jockey's face, his goggles, the bridle, reigns and crop, not even the smallest detail was left out. I thought it cleaned up nicely and still retained it's beautiful 100 year plus patina. It's larger than it appeared in my browser and I was surprised at the size and heft of this piece when I received it. It measures 12 1/2" tall, 12" long and weighs almost 10lbs!!
Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!

Adding to you xOlent collection
Beautiful horse & jockey sculpture, so evocative of horse racing motion and the thrill of watching them go down the stretch
You have eye for excellence.
Vynil,
Lol! Didn't have much time to treasure hunt this year, but I have many items that I've yet to post, so just playing catchup.
Jenni,
Thank you!! Living right in the middle of horse and bourbon country, I have a love for horses and horse racing. So, I've collected quite a bit of horse and jockey related items over the years.
Tilted,
Thank you so very much!! It's taken me many years to develop an eye for this sort of thing.
