Here is a very interesting Victorian biscuit barrel which I picked up cheaply on eBay AU.
I know there's a few biscuit barrel fans out there, so hope you enjoy it, folks!
The decor is one I've not seen before, a very fine swirling, streaky spatter which looks kind of galactic. Like those time - lapse photos of stars. Perhaps it is an imitation stone type glass. Interior is an intense, dark ultramarine blue. It is very heavy, thickly cased glass, completed by silverplate fittings which are in good condition for their age.
Large, neatly polished out pontil mark on base. The barrel measures around 10.5 cm tall minus the handle.
No idea of a maker but I feel most likely English origin, late 19th century.
Awesome eBay find!!!!
Many thanks, Scott!
Great piece! Can we see an image of the bottom?
Many thank, kwqd, just added a photo of the base. It's got a very tidy polished pontil mark.
seems what you said.... England though I had never saw something like this one.
Much appreciated, kivatinitiz! Yes, it is definitely an unusual decor, which was what caught my attention. Also it was only AU$15!
