Hello everyone!!
I've always been a fan of Charles Dickens and one of my favorite characters of his is Mr. Pickwick, of The Pickwick Papers. So, I recently came across this piece and added it to my collection. It's a fireplace tool holder in the form of Mr. Pickwick. It's bronze plated cast iron and very nicely detailed. All of the original fireplace tools are still remaining, a poker, ash shovel, coal tongs and horse hair brush. There must also be one of these in the form of Tony Weller as this one is mounted on a Tony Weller base (pic #4). I'd love to find that one as well. I've done a lot of research and cannot find another like it. There is no makers mark on this piece, but if you zoom in on the backside, you'll see a Mr. Pickwick signature, Registered Design symbol (basically the same as copyright) and Made In England. It also has a "CC2" on the underside of the base. I'm not sure if that is a date code or the design number. I'm not truly sure of the exact age of this piece, but I'm certain it's at least 100 years old. The seller I bought this from found it in a barn sale. This piece measures 15" inches 15 1/2" tall and the base is 8" wide.
Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!
