During The Beatles first "coast to coast" tour of the US & Canada from August 19-September 20, 1964 The Beatles made a stop in Boston on September 12, 1964 to play to a sold out audience of 13,909 wild fans at the Boston Garden. Ever since The Beatles told British reporters in late 1963 that they liked the soft English candy, "Jelly Babies"...fans in England would pelt the Beatles with them during concerts. When they came to the US in 1964...fans would throw "Jelly Beans" at the band. JB's are much harder...and The Beatles would tell reporters to tell kids in the US to stop throwing them. In Boston...days before The Beatles arrived...radio DJ's on Boston stations WBZ & WMEX would tell fans to refrain from throwing jelly beans...and to threw streamers and confetti instead. It worked...fans brought with them confetti and streamers to the performance that night...and in the box...along with a photo of The Beatles onstage at the Garden..is some of the actual confetti that fans threw to welcome The Beatles to Boston.

It's pretty fascinating that a band got so popular that people saved and collect scrap pieces of paper.
