Carter was the Brand that they decided to use in the Billings Montana refinery after purchasing it. The Carter Co was started in 1893 by John Joyce Carter in W Virginia and in about 1915 was controlled by Standard Oil of NJ. We managed to find a couple of Carter signs many years ago from a friend in Montana and then by a stroke of good luck we found a guy in IL who had a big collection of 16 of them, which after a lot of negociating I bought. Very scary story about the night we arrived in a very bad part of town outside of Chicago and finally got them all loaded on our trailer and began looking for a Motel. I was warned NOT to stay in the bad part of town, but unfortunately, it was a weekend and the ONLY motel with a vacancy was in the worse part of town! Scary enough to sleep with one eye open, the desk pushed up against the door and my Glock on the nightstand! Fortunately we had no issues and left early the next am before the bad guys woke up. Another scary trip for an old guy and his wife.
Fort Apache,
Thanks for the love it
