Hello everyone!!
I haven't posted many rabbits or hares lately, so here's one that I recently acquired. It's from Japan and made in the Meiji period in (1868–1912). At first, I thought this one was cast iron made to look like bronze, but it turned out to be solid bronze and quite heavy. As you can see in pic #4, it is signed by Shuzan. Shuzan may refer to multiple Japanese sculptors, including Yoshimura Shuzan, and sculptors from the 19th or early 20th century. Their work consisted of bronze and wood sculptures.
It's beautifully detailed and I'm very happy to add this fellow to my collection. I actually bought this one along with another, which I'll post next. This one measures 11" tall, 10" deep and weighs 15lbs.
Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!
