A very rare pin - Theodore Newton Vail. This award was usually given as a medal or a plaque. Nevertheless, there are some of these pins to be found out there, issued for Noteworthy Public Service. I have seen these pins forged in gold, silver, and bronze. Expect to pay or overpay for this pin!
Supposedly, Chicago Telephone Company presented these pins a lot. But, I am still waiting to see a pin from Chicago Telephone Company with a bell. To be clear, not a celluloid pinback, but a pin made of gold or silver (or steel. aluminum, copper...), and I have been told there are some, but to be patient. Patience is a virtue.
Designed by the sculptor Adolph Alexander Weinman.
The front depicts three allegorical figures representing Service, Devotion to Duty, and Loyalty to Service. These figures are shown holding telephone cables, symbolizing the transmission of messages over the wires.
