Hello everyone!!
Many years ago, I posted a smaller Pierre-Jules Mêne bronze Scottish fox hunter sculpture. Well, here's the full version of that sculpture and is signed "P. J. Mêne" shown on the base in pic #1. The details on this sculpture are remarkable, from the horse to the hounds and the fox hunter. This one is far larger and has much more detail than the first one I posted. I don't come across the full sculpture, like this one, too often. But I landed this one for a great price. It was covered in white paint specks and was quite dirty when I bought this. It took me hours to carefully remove the paint specks, but there may still be a few that I missed. I cleaned it thoroughly, gave it coat of transparent bronze wax and polished it. I'm not sure how old this sculpture is, but I'm very certain it is not antique and was more than likely produced sometime during the second half of the 20th century. Perhaps someone here on CW can confirm that for me. It measures 15" long, 7 1/2" wide and 10 3/4" tall. It's a hefty 29.6lbs!!!
Pierre-Jules Mêne (25 March 1810 – 20 May 1879) was a French sculptor and animalier. He is considered one of the pioneers of animal sculpture in the nineteenth century. Mêne produced a number of animal sculptures, mainly of domestic animals including horses, cows and bulls, sheep and goats which were in vogue during the Second Empire. He was one of a school of French animalières which also included Rosa Bonheur, Paul-Edouard Delabrierre, Pierre Louis Rouillard, Antoine-Louis Barye, his son Alfred, son-in-law Auguste Caïn and François Pompon.
Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!

This is a magnificent piece! You have such a fabulous collection!
DejaVu,
Thank you! You're far too kind. My dream is to open a brick and mortar shop when I retire in a couple years from now.
It's a beauty Scott, & great background info on the sculptor
Jenni,
Thanks so very much!! I love all of Pierre-Jules Mênes' sculptures and have only a few in my collection, but most I come across are far out of my collecting budget.
