Hello everyone!!
My latest match holder find is this silver plated boot and terrier. This one was made by Meriden Britannia Co. in Meriden, Connecticut. It's made of britannia, or britannium as referred to by some, which is an alloy made up mostly of tin, but quite heavy for it's size. Some of the silver has worn on this piece, but to be as old as it is, I think it's held up quite well. This was made sometime between the late 1800's to early 1900's. The hallmark on the bottom of the boot heel reads M B Co. (Meriden Britannia Co.). This one measures 3 1/4" tall, 4" long and 2 1/4" wide.
The Meriden Britannia Company was formed in 1852 in Meriden, Connecticut, as a manufacturing company focused on producing wares in britannia metal. It became, for a time, the largest silverware company in the world.
Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!

Gorgeous silver match holder with such a clever boot & terrier design, it's as if the dog is waiting for his master to take him for a walk
Jenni,
Thanks very much!! I only wish it didn't have some much silver loss.
