    Hello everyone!!
In addition to all of my multiple table top match holders, I do have a few vestas. This one is leather covered with brass handle and push button. When the brass button, on the front, is pushed, the spring loaded top pops open to reveal a striker plate. Under that striker plate is a container of matches. This was made during the mid to late 19th century by W. Leuchars when they were located at 38 Piccadilly W, UK. It's quite small and measures only 1 7/8" tall and 2" wide.

A short history of W. Leuchars Co:

    W. Leuchars was a London-based company that made dressing cases. The company was founded in 1794 by James Leuchars and was later run by his widow, Lucy, and their son, William.

    Founding and early years
    • James Leuchars founded the company in 1794 at 47 Piccadilly, London.
    • In 1820, the business moved to 38 Piccadilly.
    • In 1822, James Leuchars died and his widow, Lucy, took over the business.
    • In 1837, the company was awarded the Royal Warrant to supply dressing cases to the royal family.

    Expansion and success:
    • In 1841, the company expanded to 39 Piccadilly and changed its name to Lucy Leuchars & Son.
    • In 1847, William Leuchars took over the business after his mother's death.
    • The company won medals at the Great Exhibition of 1851, the International Exhibition of 1862, and the International Exposition of 1867 in Paris.

    Sale and closure:
    • In 1888, William Leuchars Jr. sold the business to Asprey.
    • The business continued to trade in Piccadilly until 1902.

Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!

    Scott
