Hello everyone!!
You probably just saw my W. Leuchars leather covered match vesta post. Well, here's another one that I have in my collection. It's not quite as fancy as the previous one I posted, but still a nice example of the Victorian era craftsmanship. Though it's not marked with the W. Leuchars hallmark, I do believe this too was made by W. Leuchars, in England, sometime during the mid to late 19th century. It's missing the small match container, but otherwise in nice condition. As with my others, once the button is depressed on the side, the spring loaded top pops open to reveal the striker plate. As you can see, under the striker plate would have been a small match container. This one measures 2 1/8" long and 1 3/4" tall.
W. Leuchars was a London-based company that made dressing cases. The company was founded in 1794 by James Leuchars and was later run by his widow, Lucy, and their son, William.
Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!
