I think it’s great to see the variety of shapes of the different gas companies all trying to catch the eyes of the potential buyers as they drove past their Stations. Imperial used the shield shape, Skelly the triangle, Frontier couldnt make up their minds and just kept changing the shapes of their signs, Mobile was just the 6’ round but was very short lived, Cities was the cloverleaf, Coop was the figure 8, and it went on and on. Phillips seemed to have survived them all and has stuck with the famous interstate Highway Shield, even tho ownership has changed. Brilliant marketing strategy! People today have no idea what the significance of the 66 is on Phillips, but all of us oldies remember when it began and why.
