This kettle is 4" high, minus lid and handle, and 7" in diameter, minus the spout. It weighs 3 lbs 7.2 ounces. It is not marked but I think it is by the Oitomi foundry. The teapot has a very well defined Showa Era Iwachu mark. Both trivets have Iwachu marks.

I am not buying much Japanese metalwork, anymore, but one of these brass lidded kettles has been on my wish list for a long time though they are pricey. This kettle has excellent mold quality, almost perfect finishing and was pretty inexpensive. There are some very minor file marks where the top and bottom halves of the pot meet. The lid is thick, solid brass and the hollow finial is pinned to the lid using a copper pin. It is a very high quality kettle and I think it is probably by Oitomi, though there are couple of other foundries that are hit and miss about marking their pots. It does not look to have been used but there is a bit of rust on the bottom and some spotty corrosion on the lid. I have not decided, yet, how to clean it up. Anything I do will likely remove the patina but leaving the corrosion is a bad idea. The very nice, square Iwachu trivet was not mentioned in the auction, so was a nice surprise. This kettle rings like a bell when the lid is removed. Very well executed one liter kettle.

I found the small Iwachu teapot about the same time and only bought it because it had a trivet and I needed one to display something else. A $.99, plus shipping, find. It has been lightly but properly used. It, and the trivet, have a blue coloring applied, which I am not a fan of. I think that I have posted one of these before with an urushi finish so did not expend the effort to measure and weigh it, but photographed it next to the kettle for reference. It is also a very high quality pot with infuser.

Calling this a mystery as I cannot prove who made the kettle.

Ugh, got some supposedly non-abrasive metal polish, but having some patina block as it will clean up and stop the corrosion on the lid, but will also remove the patina. Sigh.
