I was in Decatur, Illinois a week ago at an estate sale and managed to get this nice stick and ball oak fireplace screen. The fabric that was in it is long gone, but I have some of my great grandmothers pillow cases that I thought I would improvise. I took one of the pillow cases and draped it over the rod to show you how it might have looked back in the day with the material in it. It sits in the dining room next to the stick and ball oak easel. November 17, 2011, after I purchased the fireplace screen, I've had a replacement made and now you can see how nice it looks with material in it instead of just something hanging over the rod.

Well, I think your improvisation is a great way to display those vintage pillow cases!! ;)
Love them both! Good thin we have this site...I would have thought the screen was a quilt stand or something like that..never would have thought a fireplace screen would be made of wood...
**good THING...**
Thank you Esther110 for the love on this old fireplace screen! I've had two more of these but I sold through time. I'm going to keep this one. They would only be used for decoration to hide the opening of the fireplace. I'm going to have my friend replace the material this winter on this one.
