My husband is a funeral director/embalmer. He received this wonderful piece of folk art. The pall bearer (4) and the following grave digger, who is carrying a jug of moon shine; the casket lid is removable and so is the deceased which may very well be the wife of the grave digger. This is a piece of interest and definitely gets our guests talking. Not sure of it's value or is there a market for anything like this. Appreciate any help. Thanks so much.
This is a awesome item. It is probably one of a kind. I have heard it said on this site before that something is as valuable as someone is willing to pay.
Very cool piece.
I just love the feet sticking out of the coffin!!
We have at least a couple of collectors of funeral items. I am sure they will be thrilled!!!
Thanks for sharing!
GREAT piece of folk art that shows.
Based on the wood grain in the bottom of the coffin and some of the figures the wood appears to be cherry-- not an easy wood to carve, but its reddish appearance and graining is beautiful.

I would venture to guess at it being Cherry also.. The age and coloration of the wood is in resemblance to a Box seat I had from a Boat/Steel Hull, Galley table. [ left it in CA]
