Im not sure of all of the rules here. My last post was deleted so I guess I cant ask questions (not sure).
I picked up this old plate at an estate sale. It was in the rafters of a very old home here in Buffalo, NY. I only paid .50 cents for it and I thought it was a great buy. I cleaned the plate with soap and water when I got it home as it was covered in dust and dirt. After the wash I found a nice butterfly on a blanket or table cloth as shown in picture 3 (on the inner slope of the plate). There is nothing on the back except for a speck of blue. Its unmarked. The plate is crackled all over with some stains. The edges have almost no glaze left as its worn off. I know nothing about this kind of stuff and Im wondering its age. I will have to get the books out for this one. I bet I wont find anything like it or a maker.
Its neat to hold and look at something this old.

The dish is great.
What intrigues me about it is that the three drawings on it have nothing to do with each other. And the fact that it has worn edges, like it was handled very much, but not food stained, no knife scratches...
Maybe it's a sort of sample plate, with different patterns to show buyers?? Not sure this ever happened back then, but the idea just appeared in my head.
Esther110, Thank you for your input. Im lost when it comes to glass and pottery. Theres just too much to know so I stay away from it. This is so neat I had to buy it at this price. You had mentioned the knife marks. There are many fine straight scratches above the crackle. Im thinking that these are knife marks. I didnt know that I needed to say that. Yes I think this plate was very used. Also if the light hits the glaze you can see a fine swirl pattern from where is was spun on a wheel. Do you think you could guess on age? American? I may put a better picture up of the butterfly on the table cloth up in the tree. I will have to do this later after 7pm. I would like you to take a better look, its very neat.
In my other ad I asked about age, about a maker and if someone could guess value. I think they thought I was trying to sell it because I also asked how I would sell an item without a makers mark. I wrote them back after they deleted the ad and asked more questions on what I did wrong. I explained that in no way was I trying to sell it in the forum. I also took the time to read the rules. They seem cut and dry so I cant figure out where I went wrong. Live and learn. I hope this ad lasts as I would like to know as much about this item as I can find out. It would make a great display in my home too. I may just keep it as the wife loves it too.
