These are two rubber banks of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. They are from the 1979 Spanish cartoon series of the book.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to start a collection for my grandson. He is now 6 months old. I will be travelling quite a bit from now on, and want to bring him something from each of my travels.
WHAT WOULD YOU COLLECT FOR HIM?
He is too young for us to know what he will like, so I am looking for something cool for a child, then teenager then adult.
I know, it's complicated, that's why I need your help.
His mom said snow globes, but I'm not convinced... :P

    ANY IDEAS???

    AFTER SEEING FOURPEEPSAKE'S COLLECTION
    http://www.collectorsweekly.com/user/fourpeepsake
I HAVE DECIDED TO START A TIN ROBOT/UFO COLLECTION.
I figure I will try to get him vintage toys, but if I get him repros they will be vintage by the time he's old enough to understand and apreciate the collection. It's also a cool collection for all ages, shiney and colorful, intriguing and inspiring, and geeky enough but not too much...just in case! lol
    THANKS FOR INSPIRING ME PEEPS!!

With my boys I waited until they showed an interest in something, and still it doesn't always work. In their boxes there is Action hero's (Thunder Cats, He Man, Turtles, Power Rangers, Spawn, Star Wars) You can't go wrong with Star Wars. Then comic's books, comic cards (they have a great collector life) Special edition hot wheels (Johnny Lightening always good) What ever cartoon they are drawn to is good. Local sports teams, anything from figures to jerseys. When they got older I framed the jerseys, with cards.

Now they are older they fight over my collections of music, and movie stuff, all love my Marks Brothers stuff. My youngest has an impressive Elvis record collection, stamps. They all love their Star Wars. Sometimes they pick up collecting of what they love because you have them appreciate the art of collecting, even if they don't continue the collection you started.

Thanks Lundy! Stamps are defienitely on the list.
Vestaswind, he will have plenty of comic rub-off from his dad, who is a collector, and has Star Wars collectables and all those other "man" toys...
My travels will take me all over the world, so I was looking for a non-tacky, really cool collection.
hmmm...I like the national sports idea...

Pick anything-- I don't think it matters so much the "what", but from personal experience, I don't think it is ever too early to start. The important thing to me was to show them my interest and encourage theirs through the "story" of an object.

All of my kids have a shoe box with small collectibles that they picked out of a large group of inexpensive items I was going to sell (mainly antique photographs and militaria). I started them off at about 2 years old.

Whenever they helped me out with mailing items, pricing, or organizing for a show, they got to pick out some more antiques for their collection.

I can remember when they were younger, they would regularly want to look at their collection. Now my three girls are all in high school and would rather look at boys than the collection, but through my prodding they will still go through their boxes.

Within the last few months, my oldest son (21) was home and went through his box of antiques. It was interesting to see him patiently showing items to his little brother (5)!

Good luck and thanks for taking me down memory lane,

      Scott

      Thanks Scott!!
None of my kids are collectors...well not like me. Oldest collects manga comics, but the other two pass on collecting. My son-in-law I've already mentioned, is a comic freak. He is only missing 4 numbers of the What If? Marvel comics and has big plans about his son inheriting them. lol...
If my grandson were a grandDAUGHTER it would be easier. *sigh*
But I wouldn't change him for the world!!

Just a thought, but since you'll be traveling around, miniture spoons that say where you've been and different characters on them, again, just a thought
