I just recently aquired this great cab light circa 1930's. I am a collector of Breweriana but live in PA. and collect items from local breweries here in PA.
I like to find out as much as I can about this piece, although it is not what I specialize in it is one of the best pieces in my collection. I came across a few other Pabst Cab lights on various sites on the internet but I did not find much on this style. It is in great shape! Whenever I show local collectors this piece they are more interested in trying to purchase it from me then helping me gather info! So if there is anyone out there who can give me some good info on it, that woud be awesome! Thanks
Well, what do you define as "good info?" Its a Gillco cab light advertising their Old Tankard ale.Old Tankard was an ale, rather than their traditional Pabst lager. There are different cans, with the toughest having PABST in red where the OLD TANKARD is on yours. You won't find a lot of info on this particular light, because there is no "gillco library" or reference that I know of.I'd say this was made in the 1936-40 era.It looks to be in fine shape with no paint loss, which is great. A lot of barkeeps relamped these with whatever wattage bulb they had on hand, and fried the paint. Some of these lights had text, whereas this has some graphics, which adds to the appeal.
actually the paint on the gillco cab lights are fired in so the paint will not peal from the heat of the bulb. they were the best ad lights available
