incredibly rare orange crate label from the 1920s. An unusual image to market oranges but a popular brand. Less than 4 or 5 of these exist today.

wikipedia definition: Americana refers to artifacts, or a collection of artifacts, related to the history, geography, folklore and cultural heritage of the United States. Many kinds of material fall within the definition of Americana: paintings, prints and drawings; license plates or entire vehicles, household objects, tools and weapons; flags, plaques and statues, and so on. Patriotism and nostalgia play defining roles in the subject. The things involved need not be old, but need to have the appropriate associations. The term may be used to describe the theme of a museum or collection, or of goods for sale. The term can also be used to describe studies of American culture, especially studies based in other countries. Americana music is contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound.

Thanks agh. I read all those words but they told me nothing. I say this because the only time I see Americana used in collecting is when it starts with Black Americana. I, and it could just be me have never seen americana used in any other way. That is the reason I asked the question.

The term is probably used more outside the United States than in it - I have also heard Native Americana used here.

I see "Americana" used often in collecting to refer to items reflecting American Culture-- all facets and eras, from 19th advertising to 20th century political buttons.

The term is used as a broad classification and I see it used often by auctions and antique dealers.

Some items seen regularly on CW that fit the bill would be Coca Cola items and my personal favorite Antique Photographs.

This a great example of black Americana.
I am happy that you displayed them, in that I keep item such as this one ro remind me and others of the past.
If the past is forgotten, iit has possibilities to repeat itself.
I t was not so lond ago that people of African origin were subjected to discrimination, degradations, physical abuse and even death.
