Well, I've given up trying to figure out what this is. Even though it has a patent date (No 1006337, July 1, 1913) I am unable to find any information on it.

It is clear glass about 15 inches long with a threaded opening at the top. It has two recessed rings that look like it may have has a metal strap at one time (is stained with rust). It has a flat section on the botton that it can sit on.

Some guesses are some kind of kerosene lattern, but the screw opening is quite large, about 2.5 inches. A reasonably good guess is a foot warmer, perhaps for a buggy, but I have never seen a glass foot warmer. They are usually tin or pottery.

    Help if you can,
    Jim

Hi, That is an unusual bottle for sure. I have never seen a photo or one in person before. I was thinking a canteen maybe, but then I got to thinking some type of medicine bottles. Maybe it had some time of strap to wear around your neck like a canteen. Ive always liked old bottles and that is a new one in my book. Hopefully some one will see it and know exactly what it is. Have a blessed day !

It's a neat bottle. The kind I would need to make a ship in a bottle:)

The patent number on the bottle is incorrect. The actual patent number is 1066337....not 1006337.

The patent was issued to Louis Stockstrom (American Stove Company) on July 1, 1913. It is a oil reservoir for an oil stove. The purpose of the clear glass is to allow the owner to see how much oil is in the stove. When you look at the patent drawing you can see how it works.
