The vase was bought a number of years ago at a Saturday morning market here in Sydney and had remained an unanswered puzzle for three years more until yesterday - 30 November 2014.
Thanks to the research of Nils Bergqvist I have a better idea about this vase.
"Found the model in my 1954 catalog, B445, design Asta Strömberg ca 1950."
It is almost 17 cm tall.
At the rim it is 8.5 cm wide.
It sits on a padded pastille shaped base 0.75 cm tall and 6cm wide.
The amethyst is set with a champagne colour base.
The pontil is nicely and tidily ground concave 4cm across and perfectly placed in the centre of the foot.
The rim is ground flat and then moves smoothly to round off the edge.
The sommerso to my eye has been perfectly placed.
So it is nether Czech nor Italian - but Swedish!
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks again
