Something a little different for me, a 30's cardboard bottle carrier. This is one of two found during repairs to the brick wall of a building which once housed a bottling plant in eastern Iowa. Seller cleaned off as much soot and grime as possible, but a little remains. Not having seen this carrier up for auction before, I purchased thinking perhaps not many survive today. They didn't scrimp on box board during the 30's, that's for sure! Heavy duty. I was excited to receive this item until I saw the back flap was bent over, to the point of tearing the outer liner paper. Shipping damage! Big disappointment. Seller said "keep it" and issued complete refund. I insisted on paying at least for shipping, but she was a class act and refused. So mixed emotions about this one on display.

She did you right on that one Dave! Too bad everyone doesn't do business that way.
Those were certainly well made, out of quality cardboard. Gotta be pretty rare I would think, nice snag!

Thanks Perry. Yes, even though it was a huge disappointment, the seller's quick refund cushioned the blow. Unlike last week when I purchased a flare style glass which looked to be very early for $75. I thought I hit a home run. Three days later, I got a refund from that seller with a note "sorry, I broke it while cleaning it before packing to ship". The way she wrote the note was pretty convincing. Still, I couldn't help but think she developed a bad case of "Seller's Remorse", probably figured out how much it was worth! Ah well... it's a mine field out there.

I figure even with a tear like that, it's still a very showable piece. Afterall, how many others have we seen around.

Yep, I think so too Tommy. Dave, you're probably right, she probably found out what the glass was worth.

people get kinda funny when they find out how much some things can be worth. I'm still waiting for a response on a cooler, I had it just about bought when the guy called and said " a friend said it's worth $1,000" So it's back to the table and we go, lol !!!

It's definitely better when dealing with a pro vs. someone selling grandpa's collection. The worst is when a seller changes their mind though, after the deal is done. A couple times I thought I had a nice piece, only to be shot down post-transaction. I'm getting better about handling it. Oh well, On to the next one!"
