These are more pictures of the same book, it is held together with string, I would say this is Fine Art of Japan, I believe this book belonged to Rev. John Davis, as the Japanese Bible that I will be posting did :)
Hello,
My best guess is that you have an example of the book called Stories of the Loyal Retainers: The 47 Ronin illustrated by Yoshitora. Take a look at this website
http://www.japancollection.com put the artist's name in the search. Their item number R06180 looks very similar in style, you might even find the page in your book.
Needless to say the book is very valuable. You should get it professionally appraised. And you will also have to consider weather you will want to break the book up. Anyway, nice find
thank you:)
Hi Deanteaks.
The type of book you have is called "musha-e".
I hope for you that it is Utagawa Kuniyoshi.
There is a site that is putting together a catalogue raisonee of his work:
http://www.kuniyoshiproject.com/
If you get the front page translated you might get some more info.
yes, I found that site too doing a google search but havn't researched it yet, thank you, vetraio50
