Russian Amethyst necklace and brooch, marked, all stones amethyst but the small ones do not photograph well, the two large stones have some small inclusions inside the stones. No breaks or missing stones. Not sure of the design because jewlery is not my thing. Real nice piece though? If you know this pattern please comment. Would like to know the designer.

      What does the mark say?
    2. papa papa, 13 years ago
Sure thriftfan, the brooch says Austrian, the necklace just has the sickle overlaping the hammer with a 10 stamped. No other markings. Does not say 10k but just 10 sickle hammer. The two pieces seem to match and guessing occupied Austrian Russian made; or the gemstones are Austrian Amethyst made in Russia? Not sure, they both came together in a white square box from an estate sale.

      These are not a set

You might be right davyd286, like I said they came from an estate sale and just because they were in the same box and look alike and both have same gemstones does not mean they belong together. Noticed the necklace photographs more white then the brooch, to the naked eye they are both gold in colour. Could be the russian gold is not as good as austrian gold? Look the same in the hand, except the brooch is real soft and will bend. ID either one; necklace or brooch to a designer would be great? Thanks

Are the white stones a type of amethyst as well? Just curious - it's a stunning set :)

In my experience, Russian gold is always marked with the gold content. Soviet costume jewelry is often marked with a maker's stamp that includes numbers but it doesn't mean it's precious metal.

Amethyst is my birthstone. I love it, and I'm drooling over this ;)

Both pieces are clearly very good costume jewelry with glass/rhinestones in goldtone metal. Lovely!

All the stones are amethyst, even the little ones. Been watching costume jewlery on eBay and antique jewelery sites online. Not seeing anything even close to these. Never seen glass with inclusions? At first I thought glass stones because of the rounding of edges over the years, glass will do that. But glass does not have smoke and crystal inclusions. Glass has air bubbles. Some costume jewelry uses real gemstones that are less expensive versions of their precious counterparts. Looking for the designer of the emerald counterpart? Thought collectors of jewelry would read books on these things and say that is a copy of the queen of bohoken jewelry? Guess I would have better luck if the piece said Avon or Sarah Coventry jewelry, then I could get a date and designer.

The style of the necklace looks to be from the 80s-90s, the brooch looks older, maybe 40s or 50s.

If you can get a good photo of the maker's mark, I may be able to find the maker and the date.

Do you have a clear closeup of the Russian mark?
