I bought this beautiful desk at a flea market about 15 years or more ago and absolutely LOVE it. It's attractive and functional. I used to use it as my desk when I rented apartments. Now, it is kept in the hobby room and stores many of my hobby items. I know that furniture is meant to be used, so we use it. My only concern is that, over the years, it has been banged up a little in moves and has scratches across the top. Is this easily fixed or did I ruin the value of it?
I think it is a very easy fix, and I am not very handy. I just bought a similar mahogany desk today at a yard sale and took one of the drawers to Home Depot to ask their advice on how to get the scratches off. I bought a tin of Restore-a-Finish in the mahogany shade. For something like $8.67 my desk looks amazing. Still enough little dings to look genuine and definitely a keeper. I also got the wax that is recommended on the back of the tin by the same manufacturer, Howard. Has a bee hive in the logo. All together it cost something like $17.00. I'm going to try the wax tomorrow. Oh, and I took off the drawer hardware (looks like yours) before I treated the wood. Hope that helps.
