Hello:
Our mom passed away this year, leaving my sister and I orphaned adults. We are now going through her things and attempting to sort, identify and determine what to do with everything.
This Grundig console was one of her favorite things in the house. We distinctly remember her listening to her favorite vinyl records at home and there was definitely a "hands-off Mom's console" policy in full force throughout our childhood. We know it hasn't worked properly in several years. There seems to be a problem with the record player - the turntable does not spin at the correct speed to play the vinyl records.
We are now trying to determine if there is anyone in the Tucson, AZ or Phoenix, AZ area that can repair these vintage consoles.
Also, can anyone advise the value of this piece - working and not working?
This is an awesome console. Your mother was right to love and protect it. I own a larger model, and it's been valued $600 as is, $1,000 if the reel-to-reel player worked. Grundig was the largest radio manufacturer in Europe back in the day. Your turntable probably needs work. (Play with the speed settings at your TT's lower left corner.) Many record shops double as repair centers for collectors and enthusiasts. At the very least, record shops are the place to start your search for a competent repairman. Try to find someone with experience working on European models, someone older who'll remember these. It'll cost a small fortune, but the rewards are amazing. A piece of your childhood... far out!
My mom has a grundig console bought in 1965 that quit working many years ago. It is for sale. Interested? Call me @ 949 632 7947
