FIRLAND HOSPITAL SERVICE PIN ~~ This was one more thing that was given to me I was thinking if I put it on here someone would recognizes it and give me a little information about it.
It Is only about an Inch
This would have been given as a 5 yrs of service award . I would assume it was given to a nurse but then maybe because I am a Nurse but it could have been any employee . Beautiful . The was a TB Hospital and not a lot of people wanted to work in them . So it took a special person to put their self at risk of getting TB and many did . Thanks for sharing . TB was all but gone once but it is on the rise again :-(

Thank you so much for the information thats so sad and I'm only about an hour driving distance from seattle so close to home
Did you know what was what kind of hospital it was ? My Grandmother spent time in a TB hospital back in 30's it was not a good place for either patients or workers . Hopefully it will never rise to level it was at again . That is why TB testing is so important today to catch it and stop before it gets passed on . Enjoy your lovely pin that person earned it ! :-)
I like this one AR8 because of the Hospital. Not many Nurses and othes wanted to work in them they were put at risk and many died from TB themselves . It took a special person to work there . Lots deaths .
Gee I worked in hospitals since 70's and none of them gave out pins I think that practice stopped just like we don't have to wear all white or Nurses caps anymore . Yeah those hats were awful .
Nisi Dominus Frustra on pin Latin (That is, "everything is in vain without God". Summarized from Psalm 127, "nisi Dominus aedificaverit domum in vanum laboraverunt qui aedificant eam nisi Dominus custodierit civitatem frustra vigilavit qui custodit" (unless the Lord builds the house, they work on a useless thing who build it; unless the Lord guards the community, he keeps watch in vain who guards it)
AR8 Wow I would think at 90 time to retire :-) We have an Old TB hospital that is now a Teaching school for missionaries . It sits high on a hill and over looks city . Was a sad time in history along with Polio and Black Plague .
AR8 Yes Aids was scary till we knew more and I worked rescue at the first of it and was often sprayed with blood . We did have not all the protective gear yet like face protecters and we did know about aids at first so ,one worried if they had came inc ontact with it when it was released that aids had a name . They have come along way in treating it and public assurance .
I want to say Thank you Manikin & AR8 for all the educational information I hope that everyone will take a look at this and learn something from it
Your welcome Teresa :-)
This is a generic design pin on which the proper hospital name was added. It would make a very interesting collection if one would try to gather all the hospital names that appear on these badges.
It is not so much who made Pin but what it stood for that makes this special . Not to many workers ever lasted 5 yrs working in a TB Hospital . Some Unspoken hero's !
